Are you a young researcher or practitioner working towards sustainable transport? Join our upcoming webinar on 31 March to learn more about the Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency, and how to apply.
VREF is pleased to host this introductory session designed for prospective applicants. The scholarship, established in memory of Dr. Lee Schipper, supports data-driven research and policy work that challenges conventional wisdom in sustainable transport and energy efficiency.
This year, the scholarship is expanding to provide US$12,500 to up to five extraordinary young scholars to advance transformative research in efficient and sustainable transport and energy, including:
- Two international scholars
- One African scholar
- One international scholar researching sustainable freight transport or logistics
- One African scholar researching sustainable freight transport or logistics
During this webinar, we will provide a comprehensive overview of the scholarship goals, the 2026 application process, and what makes a proposal stand out. You will also hear firsthand accounts from past scholars who will share their experiences and how the scholarship impacted their professional journeys.
Deadline for expressions of interest is April 17, 2026.
Lee Schipper, international physicist, researcher, musician and co-founder of EMBARQ (today the Urban Mobility program of the World Resources Institute (WRI) Ross Center for Sustainable Cities) inspired and shaped the thinking of a generation of students and professionals. VREF has supported the Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship since 2018, and beginning in 2026, the Kuehne Climate Center will sponsor two new freight scholarships.
